For 40 years, architect Jan Gehl has studied means of redesigning Danish capital Copenhagen. How many pedestrians walk down a street on a 24-hour period? Are public spaces inclusive? How do these people walk, observe, rest and interact? These are a few of the questions that conduct Gehl’s thinking, captured in this documentary which proposes a reflection on modernity and an urban philosophy that places human need in front of other interests. Gehl’s ideas are gradually being adopted by cities such as New York, Melbourne and Chunking.
