Première Brasil continues Friday with the screening in competion of Daniel Aragão's Prometo um dia deixar essa cidade (I Swear I'll Leave This Town) at the Cinepolis Lagoon at 21.45. Earlier on Friday the documentary Samba & Jazz, directed by Jefferson  Mello, will screen at 17.00. Friday also sees the screening of Eder Santos' Deserto Azul (Blue Desert) at 20.00, part of Première Brasil: New Trends.

Not only are the films screenings in competition in Première Brasil  being re-screened the following day, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers, but so are films from Première Brasil: New Trends and Première Brasil: Portraits. The films will screen at the Justiça Federal Cultural Centre (CCJF) starting most days at 16.45 with the discussion at 18.30.

Emmy-Award winning costume designer Janie Bryant, along with author and fashion consultant Monica Corcoran Harel, will give a MasterClass on costume design as part of RioMarket at 10.00 on Friday in the festival pavilion. Bryant was responsible for the costumes for both Mad Men and Deadwood and with Corcoran wrote "The Fashion File" that offers a peek into the Mad Men dressing room.

Directors Laurel Spellman Smith and Francine Strickwerda present their documentary Oil & Water on Friday at the Justiça Federal Cultural Centre (CCJF) at 18.30 followed by a debate with the filmmakers.

Director of photography, Inti Briones, will present Las Ninas Quispe (The Quispe Girls) at Estação Rio 2 at 19.00 on Friday, followed at 21.30 by director Diana Cardozo who will introduce Manuel Jankovic's War.

Mike Leigh's bio-pic about the life of the great British painter, J.M.W. Turner, screens Friday at 14.00 and 19.00 at São Luiz 3. Timothy Spall's performance as Mr Turner won him the best actor prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The best actress prize in Cannes went to Julianne Moore for her performance in David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars that screens Friday at Roxy 3 at 14.00 and 19.00

The retrospective of master filmmaker Roberto Rossellini gets underway on Friday with a screening of the director's 1959 documentary India: Matri Bhumi at the Estação Rio 2 at 17.00. Stromboli, which premiered at the 1950 Venice Film Festival, screens on Friday at 18.00 at the CCBB.
