Walter Carvalho's About Cinema on screen tonight One of Brazil's biggest names in cinema presents his latest documentary at the festival.
This evening, Friday 9th October, there is a special treat in store for all cinephiles. At 8.15pm in the Cinépolis Lagoon, filmmaker Walter Carvalho will introduce his new documentary, About Cinema (Um filme de cinema), a poignant musing on the cinematographic art. Walter, who also happens to be the head of the jury that will judge this year’s Premiere Brasil, will be present to introduce his film, part of the hors concours selection at this year’s festival.
Comprising interviews with some of cinema’s most well-known directors – Hector Babenco, Julio Bressane, Andrew Wajda, Vilmos Zsigmond, Ruy Guerra, Ken Loach, Béla Tarr, Gus Van Sant, Jia Zhangke (pictured) - this film asks, simply: what is the point of cinema?
