This Monday promises thought-provoking visual insights and verbal discussions about weighty topics.

Director Mabel Lozano will introduce her new documentary, New Girls 24 Hours (Chicas Nuevas 24 Horas)at 3.45pm at the Oi Futuro Ipanema. The work looks at the debates surrounding prostitution and the trafficking of women across various countries in Latin America. The film plays with cinematic constructs, placing the spectator involuntarily in a position of voyeuristic complicity with those financing the sex-trade.

Beyond my Grandfather Allende (Allende mi abuelo Allende), is a documentary about the life of the Chilean president as told by his grand-daughter Marcia Timbutti Allende. The director herself will introduce the work at 7pm in the Estação NET Botafogo.

Make sure you don’t miss the special panel debate, Talent Press Rio: Building a film critic in Portuguese at 3pm in the CCBB – Auditorio. In attendance at truly international event will be Oliver Baumgarten from the German company Berlinale Talent Press, Angolan actor and film expert Miguel Hurst, Brazilian film critic Flávia Guerra, Portuguese journalist Kathleen Gomes, Mozambican filmmaker Victor Lopes and Brazilian journalist and film critic José Carlos Avelar. At this free debate, professionals from different fields will discuss the status quo of the film critic in Lusophone countries and put their heads together to come up with the necessary changes for creating an exchange network which stimulates the film critic’s development.
