The Outrun: Finding hope and Strength in Heavy Gales and Bracingly Cold Seas Anyone with a love of Scotland, might want to check out Nora Fingscheidt’s “The Outrun”, the first ever feature shot in the Orkney Islands
Scots in Rio, or anyone with a love of Scotland, might want to check out Nora Fingscheidt’s “The Outrun”, the first ever feature shot in the Orkney Islands, that had a gala screening at the Cine Odeon on Monday, but has other screenings on Thursday at Cinesystem Praia de Botafogo at 16.15 and on Saturday at the Kinoplex Sao Luiz at 21.15.
The film, based on the memoir of the same name, is the story of 29-year-old Rona, played by the brilliant Saoirse Ronan, who after a decade away living life on the edge in London, returns home to the Orkney Islands. Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery. Slowly the mystical islands enter her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea familiar to many a Scot.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and had its European premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.
