Director Georges Gachot and samba great Martinho da Vila (photo above) will introduce the documentary  O Samba at the Cinepolis Lagoon on Tuesday at 19.15. The Swiss director looks at the importance of samba and is guided by da Vila who tells stories about his career and introduces the director to Unidos de Vila Isabel, the carnival champions in 2013, as well as other musical greats such as Ney Matogrosso, Leci Brandão, Beth Carvalho and others.

Najwa Najjar (photo) will present her second feature, Eyes of a Thief, at 19.30 on Tuesday at CCJF. The West Bank thriller has been chosen as Palestine's contender in the best-foreign-language film category. At 21.15 Ernesto Contreras will introduce Los oscuras primaveras  (The Obscure Spring) at Estação Rio 2, part of Focus Mexico. Then at 21.30 Cem Kaya will present Remake, Remix, Rip-Off in Estação Rio 3, part of Film Docs.

Première Brasil continues at the Cinepolis Lagoon on Tuesday with the screening in competiton of Bruno Safadi and Ricardo Pretti's O Fim de Uma  Era (The End of an Age) at 21.45, and the documentary Campo de Jogo (Sunday Ball), directed by Eryk Rocha, at 17.00.

In Rio de Janeiro, close to the mythical Maracana stadium, venue for the final of the FIFA World Cup, you will find a very ordinary football field in the Sampaio neighborhood. There, football is played as  a genuine expression of Brazilian culture. And on Sundays it is the turn of the annual favela league of 14 teams. Each team represents the colours , rituals and aspirations of their community, much in the same way as the samba schools do. Geração x Juventude contest the final in Eryk Rocha's Campo de Jogo (Sunday Ball).

At the RioMarket,Tuesday is the traditional American Day, but there will also be panels discussing opportunities to produce with Europe, international film financing, the Latin market in the US as well as co-producing with the US.

At the end of the day there will be a cocktail reception and signing of a MOU between the cities of Rio and Atlanta prior to a screening for guests of Damien Chazelle's Whiplash that opened this year's Sundance festival.
