Opening Monday with refreshingly frank presentations from the Minister of Culture, Sérgio Sa Leitão, and Carlos da Costa, director of planning at Brazil’s development bank, BNDES, both of whom highlighted the economic success of Brazil’s audiovisual industry, RioMarket continues Tuesday.

RioMarket offers seminars, Master Classes, industry screenings, Round Tables, one-to-one scheduled meetings, and networking events covering film, home entertainment and television. It also covers everything from production to distribution, and offers special events for the fans. Information about registration and the full program for RioMarket can be found on the market’s web site at: www.riomarket.com.br

On Tuesday, 10 October, there are a number of seminars that start at 10.00 with a look at audiovisual investment funds with speakers from BNDES and Investimage. Marcelo Caetano, Record TV’s head of programming, who will discuss how we need to reinvent what free TV has to offer, follows at 11.30.

In the afternoon Krishna Mahon, the content director for History/A&E/Lifetime/H2, will give tips on how to negotiate with a TV channel and pitch projects. Mahon will then moderate a panel of industry executives to discuss the distribution chain, from the sale to the contract signature, through the different business models, agreements and specifics of each territory, for linear and non-linear content.

At 16.00 the creators of the first Argentine series with original production for Netflix, Nacho Viale and Diego Palacio, will discuss how Estocolmo came about.

Companies offering round table meetings on Tuesday with senior executives include ESPN, TV Brasil, NBC Universal, Globo, Turner and Discovery Network. There is also a special round table at 10.00 for 30 producers to discuss how to present a business plan to potential investors.

RioMarket is also offering a Co-Production Clinic where producers will have the opportunity to meet with lawyers who will provide legal guidance for international co-production and audiovisual projects.

Unfortunately Tuesday’s workshop, that was to be presented by Hervé Hadmar, creator of the French TV series Les Témoins (Witnesses), has had to be cancelled.

Events open to the public on Tuesday will look at binge watching; product licensing; and the success of TV Globo’s Rock Story. In the evening leading Brazilian screenwriter Marcos Bernstein will look at the peculiarities of writing for TV and cinema.

At 15.30 RioMarket will hold a very special fan event, where fans will have the chance to listen to, meet and question Graeme Manson, the creator of the hit TV series Orphan Black.
