On Thursday, 12 October – Children’s Day ­- there will be time to play, especially with Virtual Reality, but there will also be a very full programme of seminars and events.

RioMarket starts on Thursday at 10.00 when award winning screen and game writer, Patrick Hegarty, whose credits include the very successful Major Baseball League video game series, will offer a screenwriting master class from 10.00 to 13.00. Audrey Pacart, the CEO of Very Story will also give a workshop at 11.00 that looks at screenwriting from traditional formats to Virtual Reality.

Also at 10.00 Priscila Guedes, Founder & Conception VR of FEEL XR Studio is discussing the international perspectives for Virtual Reality, Technology Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality, while in a separate room industry executives will look at audiovisual production in other countries. At 11.00 there will be a high level discussion about new co-production opportunities between Brazil and the UK.

After lunch, at 14.00, Pedro Drable, Creative Director of Massiv, will argue that the new video revolution is here to change everything, and ask if you are prepared. Massiv is the Webedia Group’s audiovisual producer for digital platforms.

At 14.30,producer Avi Amar of Floréal Films will discuss the concept of producing a Virtual Reality project, writing and finally launching the film. Avi will talk about his successful experience in traditional film production and productions for new technology, focusing on Virtual Reality with the movie he developed and produced, Sergent James, a feature film shown in festivals, which ended up being bought for international broadcast through the Within platform.

Brazil’s main exhibitors will debate at 15.00 ways to increase cinema occupancy, which in Brazil remains under 20%. Among the topics of discussion is the impact of digitalization on cinema going and the strategies to increase the frequency of cinema going and the sale of tickets, as well as changes to schedules and marketing.

Maria Fernanda Lauret of Contrast VR, of Al Jazeera Media Network will, at 15.30, look at the impact of Virtual Reality production techniques on documentaries and journalism. At 16.30 Matthieu Thibaudault of AdoroCinema.com, the largest cinema and series website in Latin America, will present the case for good creative content practices to promote the cinema in the digital field as well as data driven storytelling.

The day continues at 16.30 with the chairman of IDVIU, Rabah Guendouz, looking at the technology, financing, and distribution behind the Virtual Reality production model, and this will be followed at 17.30 by Fabio Hofnik of Hyper VR looking at Virtual Reality culture and its distribution in Brazil. The last VR panel, at 18.30, will appropriately sum up the challenges and opportunities of producing in Virtual Reality for Brazil.

A panel of producers and executives will also be looking at how best to work on a budget for producing in Brazil, and RioMarket also offers a Co-Production Clinic where producers will have the opportunity to meet with lawyers who will provide legal guidance for international coproduction and audiovisual projects.

Throughout Thursday there are a number of free panels that will mainly focus on topics related to You Tube and social media with some influential figures in the movement present to give their experience of You Tube or as bloggers, such as Luisa Clasen who is better known to her many fans as Lully de Verdade.
