While a large part of the festival is targeted towards the resident Brazilian cinema going public, Festival do Rio also has a very strong industry section that is covered by RioMarket.

RioMarket offers seminars, Master Classes, industry screenings, Round Tables, one-to-one scheduled meetings, and networking events covering film, home entertainment and television. It also covers everything from production to distribution, and offers special open events for fans that have proved to be very popular.

RioMarket in 2017 takes place during the week of9 to 14 October with the majority of the market events centred on and around São Conrado in the Gran Meliá Nacional Rio and the Royal Tulip Rio São Conrado

 On Monday, 9 October these are a number of seminars that include at the opening at 10.00 a discussion about the challenges of audiovisual policy in the context of the digital revolution That will be followed at 11.30 by VIACOM: “Youth in Flux” research; and at 12.30 by Fox Networks: Content Production in Latin America.

In the afternoon RioMarket will present National Trends and Regional Dynamics in Brazil’s audiovisual consumption. Followed at 16.30 by a presentation by Turner about developing project and co-production in Latin America.

Monday’s workshop from 10.00 to 13.00 will see Katie Irish and Lori Hicks, costume and makeup designers respectively, talk about their work together on the TV series The Americans, including the process of collaboration and how it changes script to script, evolution of the characters’ look and disguises, and what it is like to work on a scripted drama. The presentation will include fitting photos, research boards, stills from the show, and will welcome questions from the audience. 

Companies offering round table meetings on Monday with senior executives include Canal Brasil, Sony, BNDES, Elo, Fox Networks, E! Entertainment Television, Arte 1, and GNT, Viva and Mais Globosat.

RioMarket is also giving participants the chance on Monday to meet with Italian executives and producers in Rio to support the festival’s Italy Focus, and there will be an open panel to discuss business opportunities and co-productions between Brazil and Italy.

Events open to the public will look at why food shows are currently so successful; what are the recent successes of TV Globo, and why; the migration of audiences from TV to You Tube, and now to Apps; and the Avant Premiere of season 2 of Fox and TV Zero’s hit TV series Me Chama de Bruna, a successful spin off from a TV Zero feature film.
