Director Stephen Daldry, who was introduced to the audience in the Cinema Carioca in the Complexo do Alemão, by  Felicia Krumholz, curator for Generation, enchanted the young dance students, including several real life Brazilian 'Billy Elliots'.

Daldry explained his film to the children and asked them about their own experiences in learning to dance. He also spoke to their teacher, Ellen Serra, who now has 85 pupils from the favela in the dance class.

Daldry brought Alex Ko with him to the Complexo do Alemão. Alex played the part of Billy Elliot on Broadway for three years from 2009 to 2011. Alex also inspired the children in the cinema to keep on dancing and to follow their dreams.

Daldry is currently finishing principal photography on his latest picture, Trash, which is set in Rio de Janeiro.
