Introducing the Brazilian Films Selected for Festival do Rio’s Première Brasil in 2023 Festival do Rio, Rio de Janeiro’s International Film Festival, will present over 90 new Brazilian productions in Première Brasil, including feature films and shorts.
Considered one of the main showcases and shop windows for Brazilian cinema, Première Brasil has selected over 90 Brazilian productions - features and shorts - for the 25th edition of the festival, showcasing a wide panorama of young and established filmmakers, with all the diversity and creativity that Brazilian cinema is known for around the world.
Festival do Rio received 1,108 entries for Première Brasil - 790 shorts and 318 features - from filmmakers from across Brazil, as well as co-productions with Brazil. Première Brasil will present these films to the public in competitive screenings - Official Competition and New Trends - as well as in the special sections of the festival such as Hors Concours, Portraits, and The State of Things. There will be over 40 world premieres amongst the 54 feature films and 38 shorts in a celebration of new Brazilian cinema.
Première Brasil also offers face-to-face sessions and debates at Cine Odeon and Estação NET Rio (New trends) with the cast and crews of the films screening and gives the public the opportunity to get to know and see the Brazilian films that will be on cinema screens across the country and play at other festivals over the coming year. Co-productions with Brazil and restored Brazilian classics also make up the vast and varied selection on offer in 2023 which aims to help create new audiences.
