The March of the White Elephants and more! Today, it’s all about documentaries at the Festival do Rio as three directors talk about their works in special gala screenings.
The March of the White Elephants (A Marcha dos Elefantes Brancos) and UPRISING! (LEVANTE!) are being
screened with cast and crew in attendance today
at the festival. The March of the White Elephants centres around the
aftermath of the World Cup held in Brazil in 2014. Craig Tanner’s
international production is a documentary that voices a left-wing journalist’s
view of the political and economic situation in Brazil during and after the
event. Susanna Lira and Barney Owen’s UPRISING! is
meta-cinematic reflection on the social role of filmmaking today, as she travels
around the globe filming and recording large-scale protests and demonstrations.
Both films will be screened from 9pm at the Estação NET Ipanema 1, with the
films’ respective directors and producers Susanna Lira, Barney Owen, Pedro
Rosa, Neil Brandt and Laura Colucci ready to answer your questions.
In case you missed it yesterday, director Mabel Lozano will be present again to introduce her new documentary, New Girls 24 Hours (Chicas Nuevas 24 Horas) at 7.30pm at the Centro Cultural Justiça Federal 1. The work looks at the debates surrounding prostitution and the trafficking of women across various countries in Latin America.
