At 6pm at
the Oi Futuro Ipanema, the documentary The Empty Classroom is the
inspiration for a debate on truancy across Latin America. Directors Flavio
Castro and Mariana Chenillo and executive producers Marcelo Cabrol and Simone
Andrés will take part in a discussion led by educational specialist and
public-sector teacher Suraia Mockdece El-Kaddoum.
Later, at 7pm, there will be a double screening of The March of the White Elephants (A marcha dos elefantes brancos) and UPRISING! (LEVANTE!), two documentaries that are part of this year’s Frontiers series. Respective directors Susanna Lira and Barney Lankester-Owen and producer Neil Brand will join journalist Patrick Granja to discuss with the public about the role of the media and social networking in popular protest movements.
