E.T. Comes Home to the Big Screen Festival offers a rare chance to watch Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece on the big screen.
Forty years after its premier at Fesitval de Cannes in 1982, audiences around the world are being given the chance to see the magic of Steven Spielberg's “ET” on the big screen again. There are three screening during Festival do Rio at the Reserva Cultural Niteroi (16.45 - 9 Oct); Estação NET Botafogo (11.00 - 12 Oct - Dubbed copy); and the Cine Odeon (19.30 - 14 Oct).
“E.T.” was the closing night film in Cannes in 1982 and the last film to play in the old Palais theatre in the official section. It was nominated for nine Oscars, including best picture, winning four. Producer Kathleen Kennedy, recalls the Cannes screening: "It had 2,500 seats, and it was extraordinary. The audience was on their feet 15 minutes before the movie ended, and they all were lighting lighters and stomping their feet. It was one of the most thrilling things I've ever been through."
