Documentaries and Latin American productions are today's gala screenings The third day of the festival sees more internationally acclaimed directors coming from all corners of the globe to present their latest films.
The third day of the festival promises another array of fascinating events. Three directors will present their films and open the floor for discussion afterwards.
Belgian film director Thierry Michel (Congo River, Beyond Darkness) will be present to introduce his latest film The man who mends women (L’homme que répare les femmes) a documentary about the controversial figure Dr Muckwege, a philanthropist and anti-rape activist from the Eastern Congo. The discussion will take place at the Estação NET Ipanema 1 at 5.15pm.
Director Jeronimo Rodriguez (X Kids) will be introducing his film The monument hunter (Rastreador de estátuas), an experimental documentary that has come to the festival as part of the series of Latin American screenings. The event will be held at the Museu da República at 6pm.
Another film representing Latin America is Semana Santa (photo shown), a fiction feature-length that follows a troubled family on their beach holiday. The screening will take place at 10pm at the Estação NET Ipanema, with an introduction by the director Alejandra Márquez Abella.
A special gala screening of the Brazilian documentary Transtime (Quanto tempo o tempo tem) will take place in the Cinepolis Lagoon 6 at 7.15pm. Presenting their film will be director Adriana L. Dutra and producers Claudia Dutra and Thiago Guimaraes.
