Brizola: A Political History Maker A new documentary is an immersion in to the life and struggles of Leonel Brizola, one of the most emblematic, controversial and recognisable figures in Brazilian politics who was twice elected Governor of Rio de Janeiro.
With the elections across Brazil on Sunday, it seemed appropriate that Festival do Rio iscreened on Monday “Brizola - Anotações Para use Histórias” (Brizola - Notes for a History), a new documentary that is an immersion in to the life and struggles of Leonel Brizola, one of the most emblematic, controversial and recognisable figures in Brazilian politics who was twice elected Governor of Rio de Janeiro. The film follows the trajectory of a leader renowned for his progressive views and tireless defence of public education, through unpublished recordings and the testimonies of allies and critics. An emotional journey in which decisive moments of Brazil's recent history are illuminated by Leonel Brizola's courage and passion.
The much in demand documentary screens again on Tuesday at 14.00 and on Friday at 22.30 at Cine Santa Teresa.
