The film is Eduardo Coutinho's “Cabra Marcado Para Morrer” which is part of the festival’s A Cinemateca É Brasileira section, and which way back in 1984 won the Golden Toucan at Rio’s first major film festival, FestRio. The film also won the FIPRESCI  Prize at the Berlinale of 1985. “Cabra Marcado Para Morrer”

In 1962 João Pedro Teixeira, the leader of the Liga Camponesa (Peasant League) of Sapé, in Paraíba, was executed by order of the landowners. Eduardo Coutinho began to shoot a film about his life in 1964, using the peasants themselves in a fictional reconstruction of the actions that led to the crime. The filming was interrupted by the military coup of that year. Seventeen years later, in 1981, Coutinho resumed the project, seeking out João's widow, Elizabeth Teixeira, and the other participants of the abandoned production.
