The story of the encounter of two extraordinary women: Brazilian Virgínia Bicudo and German Adelaide Koch. Virgínia, a black woman, was Brazil's first psychoanalyst. Adelaide, a jewish psychoanalyst, came to Brazil fleeing from the Nazi regime in Germany. They got to know each other in São Paulo in November 1937, just as Getúlio Vargas decreed the Estado Novo. Doctor and patient for five years, colleagues and friends for their whole lives, these two women stood up to racism and took an active part in the foundation of Brazilian psychoanalysis.
