Raised in a small village in rural India, young Lila dreams of following in her mother’s footsteps, a dancer dedicated to devotion to one of the Hindu gods in the local temple. Living on the fringes of society the two struggle to survive amidst a series of financial difficulties. But all could change when Lila agrees to pose as a model for a man from the village who wants to be a sculptor. Soon, she attracts the attention of the village landlord’s son, as well as the ever-present gaze of the villagers ,whose prejudice escalates to hatred and endanger both her life and her mother’s.
Khyentse Norbu
Nasceu em 1961 no Butão. Monge budista, trabalhou como consultor de Bernardo Bertolucci durante as filmagens de O pequeno Buda (1993), e depois estudou cinema nos EUA. Seu primeiro longa-metragem, The Cup (1999), estreou no Festival de Cannes e foi selecionado para diversos festivais. Seu segundo longa, Travellers and Magicians (2003), foi o primeiro filme inteiramente rodado no Butão e estreou no Festival de Veneza.
