The story of the long relationship between a man and a woman. The man is Leo Tolstoy. His wife, Sophia. Married for 36 years, they had 13 children. They kept individual journals and lived in the same house, but often wrote letters to each other. The film is Sophia's monologue about the pains and delights of life together, inspired by the couple's intimate writings. Official selection of the 2022 Venice Film Festival.
Frederick Wiseman
Legendary documentary filmmaker born in the United States in 1930. His filmography, which mostly deals with social institutions, apparently follows the guidelines of observational (or direct) cinema, but Wiseman rejects such terms whenever he has the opportunity. Un Couple is a rare foray into fiction during his 50-year career.
