​On a winter’s night, an accident changes the lives of a group of people. Tomas, a romantic, is not to blame for braking too late. Nor is little Christopher, who could have kept more of an eye on his younger brother. And neither is Kate, the two boys’ mother, who could have put them to bed earlier. Tomas’ life collapses as a result of his guilt. When Christopher turns 17, he decides again to face the man he became that deadly night. ​Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1945. He studied at the University of TV and Film in Munich. He is one of the biggest names in German cinema, having made films such as The American Friend (1977), Tokyo-Ga (1985) and Wings of Desire (1987). Paris, Texas (1984) won the Palme D’Or in Cannes and The State of Things (1982) won the Gold Lion in Venice. He also directed documentaries as Buena Vista Social Club (1999), Pina (2011) and Salt of the Earth (2014).​
