Winfried, a middle-aged music teacher, decides to make a surprise visit to his daughter, the very organized Ines. His plan is simple and seems infallible: to reconnect with her through his valuable arsenal of eccentric jokes. For this he turns into Toni Erdmann, a bizarre character. Ines, in turn, becomes desperate while seeing her perfectly organized life disturbed by an unforeseen event of this proportion. When her
father boldly asks "are you happy?", she doesn’t seem to have an answer, giving way to a profound change.FIPRESCI prize at Cannes 2016.
