Esther and Sally are detectives working for the internal affairs division of the French police. They have just arrived at small Villeneuve to investigate the murder of Farid, an Algerian ex-policeman who worked as an informant. They make for an unlikely duo: Esther is a BDSM enthusiast, while Sally is more of a voyeur. Regarded with unease by the local authorities, they are going to have to work hard to solve this case, which involves suspicions of police corruption. Based on Bill James’ novel, the film combines screwball comedy and noir cinema. Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes 2013.

Serge Bozon

Born in Aix-en-Provence, France, 1972. He shot his first film, L’Amitie, in 1998, in only nine days and investing what little savings he had. After that, he embarked on a career as a critic and wrote for magazines such as Trafic, Cahiers du Cinéma and Vertigo. He became well-known with the film Mods (2002), selected for Locarno. In 2007, his war musical La France premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival.
