In 1967, legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Clay, refuses to be drafted into the US Army to fight in Vietnam. As a result, he is banned from sports and sentenced to five years in jail. His famous explanation that “no Viet Cong ever called me nigger” dates from that period. Trials of Muhammad Ali depicts the boxing champion’s trajectory outside the rings, from his Louisville, Kentucky roots, through his conversion to Islamism, his fights with the US government and his battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
