On a remote Australian island, after the First World War, a traumatized veteran dedicates himself to his new job as a lighthouse keeper, while seeking comfort in solitude. He planned on staying alone for a long time but his plans change when he meets a young girl full of life who lives across the bay. Despite the obstacles, they quickly marry in the hope of starting a family. But the fate of the young couple takes a new turn when a boat carrying a child and a dead man gets to the island.
