Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve) collects renaissance art, ancient Egyptian objects, lovers, souls... Beautiful and impeccably chic, she has been a vampire for several centuries and now lives in Manhattan. John (David Bowie) is her immortal companion and refined husband, but he suddenly begins to feel the effects of advancing age. When, in search of help, he appeals to a specialized researcher into ageing, (Susan Sarandon), Miriam sees the woman as a substitute for her great love.
