Braaim is a middle-aged drug dealer, leader of a gang in Cape Town, South Africa. Married, father of two, he is torn between family duties and a life of crime and violence. An ongoing turf war with a rival gang makes the situation even tenser, and his wife is now asking for a divorce. In the house’s dimly lit rooms, we witness the dilemmas of a man who wishes only to support his family, but whose situation may crumble at any moment. IDFA Amsterdam 2013.
Riaan Hendricks
Born in 1975, in South Africa. He is a documentary filmmaker. His directorial debut was A Fisherman’s Tale (2003), and since then he has directed, produced and edited more than 20 films, among them the medium-length features The Last Voyage (2009) and Cocaine, Suicide and the Meaning of Life (2011). The Devil’s Lair is his feature-length directorial debut.
