49 days short of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Kevin Pearce, a snowboarding favorite, suffered a severe brain injury after a fall. After lengthy treatment, he leaves hospital fully recovered, but is forbidden to resume training. What could have been the end of his career is the starting point for this documentary directed by two-time Oscar nominee Lucy Walker. As we follow Kevin’s new life, we get to know his main conflict: competing again or give in to his parents’ and doctors’ appeals, that constantly remind him that a small blow in the head could kill him. Lucy Walker
Born in London. For Waste Land (2010), on Brazilian artist Vik Munik, she was awarded at festivals such as Berlin and Sundance, and was nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar. Her first film, Devil’s Playground (2002), premiered at Sundance Film Festival and received Emmy nominations. Blindsight (2006), shown at the Toronto Film Festival, won the Panorama Audience Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
