In spite of their differences, Elise and Didier are a loving couple. She is the owner of a tattoo parlor, has a cross tattoo on her neck and keeps both feet firmly on the ground. He plays the banjo in a band and is at once a staunch atheist and an incorrigible romantic. The couple’s happiness seems complete with the arrival of their daughter, Maybelle. However, at the age of 6, she falls seriously ill and the couple must face their first crisis. Winner of best screenplay and best actress awards at Tribeca and the Audience Award at the Panorama Section of the Berlin Film Festival 2013.
Felix van Groeningen
Born in Ghent, Belgium, 1977. He got his master’s in audiovisual arts from KASK in 2000, with his short-film 50 CC. He wrote and directed several plays for the Victoria theater group, based in his hometown. Alongside producer Dirk Impens, he directed three feature-films: Steve + Sky (2004), With Friends Like These (2007) and The Misfortunates (2009), winner of Art et Essai Award at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.
