Aleksandr Sokurov
Born in Russia in 1951, the filmmaker has made about 30 features and many short films. Various of his films were banned by the soviet authorities at the beginning of his career. Often selected by the world's most important festivals, he was awarded the Leopard of Honor at Locarno Festival 2006 and the Golden Lion in Venice for Faust (2011). One of his most notable films is Russian Ark (2002).
