Shaleha lives in a small city in the South of the Philippines. She has just suffered her third miscarriage and her inability to conceive drives her to despair. Even though she has adopted her nephew, she realizes Bangas An, her husband, longs to have a baby of their own. Without any options, she makes a drastic decision: she must find a fertile woman to be Bangas An’s second wife. After much searching, she finds the girl several friends have recommended. When wedding night comes, though, Shaleha will feel something she has never felt before: jealousy. Special mention, Venice 2012.
Brillante Mendoza
Born in San Fernando, Philippines, in 1960. He studied advertising at the University of Santo Tomas, in Manila. A prolific filmmaker, he has released 12 features since his 2005 debut, The Masseur. Some of his films are Service (2008), Kinatay (2009) - best director in Cannes -, Grandmother (2009) and Captive (2012). Sapi (2013), his most recente film, will also be shown this year at the Festival.
