In the 1980s, at the heart of the Amazon forest, 115 thousand men dug up 100 tons of gold and carried it on their backs up a 150 meter high mountain. Now, Serra Pelada has turned into a 150 meters deep lake, surrounded by misery, quarrels and legends. The adventures of the greatest gold rush of the 20th century, and the second largest concentration of human labor after the pyramids of Egypt: this story is far from over. And, underneath it all, there is a slab of gold.
