In 1952, Ousmane Sembene, a Senegalese dockworker who left school in the fifth year, decided to make an apparently impossible dream come true: become the chronicler of a new Africa. This is the unbelievable story of the ‘father of African cinema’, a self-taught novelist and filmmaker who fought to devolve to the Africans the right to tell their own stories. With more than 100 hours of rare archive footage, this is a real-life epic about an ordinary man who transformed himself into a brave spokesman for the marginalized, and a world-famous, prize-winning filmmaker. Cannes 2015.
