In 1989, during the First Intifada, a group of Israeli soldiers is sent to Gaza to monitor the Arab population. During a routine patrol, one of the soldiers is killed, hit by a washing machine thrown out of a window. Four young soldiers are then assigned to try and find the culprits. They move to the terrace of a Palestinian family, where they can observe the neighborhood’s every move, and try to find their place amid the surrounding chaos. Shown at the Panorama Section at the Berlin Film Festival 2013.
Yariv Horowitz
Born in Israel, in 1971. He graduated in film and worked as director of photography, director and editor in the Israeli army’s film department. After completing military service, he directed music videos, commercials and television programs. In 2012, he was elected President of the Director’s Union of Israel. Rock the Casbah is his feature-length directorial debut.
