This film tells the long and unusual story of the friendship between tha Kaiapó chief Raoni and the Belgium filmmaker Jean-Pierre Dutilleux over 50 years. Dutilleux has been filming the great chief through his lens since 1973. In 1978, his documentary Raoni, narrated by Marlon Brando, was nominated for an Oscar and presented Raoni to the world. Raoni – An Unusual Friendship is a tribute to the great indigenous leader, a symbol of the battle for the indigenous people's rights, their culture and the Amazon forest.
Jean-Pierre Dutilleux
A native of Belgium, Jean-Pierre Dutilleux rose to international prominence with his extraordinary Academy Award nominee documentary Raoni (1978), an investigation of the complex issues surrounding young chief Raoni. During 50 years he has devoted to film the "first people" around the world. Dutilleux has gathered an unique collection of photographs and films.
