‘Then create your own party!' That was the response from Spain's two established parties when young, vociferous protest movements were criticising the country's austerity programme. And so they did. In his most recent work, Fernando León de Aranoa (Mondays in the Sun) follows the founding of Podemos, in 2014, by activists and university professors, which within a short period of time has brought hope and a sense of change to a fossilised political system.
