On a hot summer day, Paloma decides to fulfill her most cherished dream: a traditional wedding in a church with her boyfriend Zé. She is a hard-working farmhand on a papaya plantation and has been saving to afford the celebration. The priest’s refusal to accept her request will force Paloma to confront the rural society. She suffers violence, betrayal, prejudice, and injustice, but nothing shakes the faith and determination of this transgender woman.

Marcelo Gomes is a director, screenwriter, and visual artist born in Recife, where he started his career as a programmer at a film club. He wrote and directed Cinema, Aspirins, and Vultures (2005); I Travel Because I Have To, I Come Back Because I Love You (2009), with Karim Aïnouz; Once Upon a Time was I, Veronica (2012); The Man of the Crowd (2013), with Cao Guimarães; Joaquim (2017); and Waiting for the Carnival (2019).
