Fedor Alexandrovich is a radioactive man. He was 4 years old when he was exposed to the toxic effects of the Chernobyl accident. Now 33, he lives in Ukraine and, along with the strontium in his bones, he has a singular obsession with the tragedy that marked his childhood. Was there more to the story than what the Soviet authorities had said? And what part did the mysterious metal pyramid Duga – a weapon known as the ‘Russian woodpecker’, which is rotting at the site – play?
