The film is narrated by Riobaldo, who transports us to a gunman's life, sharing his experiences and conflicts. Throughout the plot, he gets involved with various gangs and charismatic leaders, among whom the dreaded Hermogenes. Riobaldo's heart is won by Diadorim, a brave and mysterious young man, who becomes the love of his life. The author explores the complexities of the human soul, through Riobaldo's narrative, plunging into the duality between good and evil. The film is adapted from the celebrated work of art "The Devil to Pay in the Backlands", written by Guimarães Rosa.

Multidisciplinary artist, she directed the features Believe Me (1997), from "The Holy Sinner", by Thomas Mann, and Então Morri (2016) — Best Film of the New Trends section of Rio Int'l Film Festival. She produced the mini-series Cartas ao Mundo (2022). She was responsible for the Brazil pavillion at Expo 2000, and for the Humanity 2012 pavillion at RIO + 20. Directed the operas "Suor Angélica", "Cavalleria Rusticana", "Pagliacci", "Don Giovanni", "Il Trovatore" and "Aída".
