Jean-Jacques Annaud
French filmmaker born in 1943 who began his career as a publicist. His first feature film was Black and White in Color (1976), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. He later made major productions that made him famous worldwide: Quest for Fire (1981); The Name of the Rose (1986), based on the novel by Umberto Eco; The Lover (1992), inspired by a story by Marguerite Duras; and Seven Years in Tibet (1997).
