After the fall of Saddam Hussein, Baran, a Kurdish independence war hero, thinks of quitting his job in the police. He ends up taking up a position in a distant town at the borders of Iran, Iraq and Turkey – a veritable mecca of drug trafficking and illegal activities. Once there, Baran meets Govend, a beautiful young woman who went there to teach at the recently inaugurated local school, despite her twelve brothers’ fierce opposition. Hiner Saleem

Born in Iraq, in 1964. He debuted in features with Vive la mariée… et la liberation du Kurdistan (1998). He went on to direct autobiographical Passeurs de rêves (2000), the drama Vodka Lemon (2003), honored at the 2005 Venice Festival, and Kilomètre Zéro (2005), selected for the Cannes Film Festival. Recently he directed Michel Picolli in Les Toïts de Paris (2007), for which the French actor received a prize at Locarno, and Si tu meurs, je te tue (2011).
