My Name Is Gal depicts part of the story of Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos, a shy girl who knows from an early age that music will guide her paths. At the age of 20, Gracinha, as her mother calls her, decides to travel to Rio de Janeiro to become a singer. There, she meets her friends from Bahia: Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil and Dedé Gadelha, who accompany Gal's first steps in professional music at the end of the 1960s.
Dandara Ferreira e Lô Politi
Director of the acclaimed documentary series O Nome Dela É Gal (2017), Dandara Ferreira immersed herself in Gal Costa’s career in the period when the singer was celebrating five decades on stage and seventy years of life. Lô Politi is a director and screenwriter. Her first film, Jonas (2015), won the Special Jury Prize at the Rio Int'l Film Festival. Sol (2021) won awards at the Rio, Miami and Los Angeles Film Festivals. She also co-directed Alvorada Palace (2021).
