In the summer of 1968, TV news changed forever. With the worst ratings, ABC network hired two specialists to comment live during the Republican and Democrat conventions. On one side was William F. Bucley Jr, spokesperson for the conservative movement. On the other, Democratic side, was controversial Leftist, Gore Vidal. Armed with huge rivalry, the pair starred in heated live debates full of swearing and insults. Ratings for ABC News went through the roof and a new era of political discourse was born.
