​Two friends set off on a journey through the desert and over the sea. Leaving from Burkina Faso, they arrive in the south of Italy in search of a better life and the ability to sustain their relatives still in Africa. However, the life posted by friends on Facebook does not match the reality of immigrants with all its challenges. Things get worse when a violent attack hits the immigrant community, forcing the two friends to take different paths. Ayiva is determined to brave the storm and help her family, but her determination will have a price. Critics’ Week, Cannes 2015.​

Jonas Carpignano

​He was born in New York in 1984, but grew up in Rome. In 2006 he directed his first short film, La casa d’Argento Bava. Chjana (2011) won the Contracampo award at Venice Film Festival. His short A Ciambra (2014) was shown at New York Film Festival and won the Discovery Prize at Cannes Critics’ Week and the Grand Jury Prize at Miami Film Festival. This is his first feature film.​
