Maud, a bright-eyed, intelligent woman, hunches with crippled hands from arthritis. Everett is a 40 year old bachelor. Abandoned by his parents at a young age, he is now a self-sufficient man, except for maybe a woman to clean and cook. When Maud answers his ad, Everett hesitates at first.
