20 year-old Rosa leaves Cabo Verde after her husband's death to establish herself in Reboleira, a poor neighbourhood of Lisbon. Working for Nunha, who manages a little café where the locals spend their days, she has to live with the local bosses harassment and police violence, but tries to keep calm. Concentrating on he mission to send money to her two children, Rosa consoles herself singing her pain away.
