Gypsy jazz is a genre rooted in 1930s France, immortalized by guitarist Django Reinhardt. In contemporary France, four guitarists have made it their life’s mission to perpetuate the genre. Gypsies, most of them still lead nomadic lifestyles, traveling in their caravans from town to town and performing. Their technique and their love of music have been passed down from generation to generation as an oral tradition. However, they must still contend with the difficulties and prejudices most gypsies face in today’s Europe.
