Armand, a hefty but gentle guy, sells farm equipment. Middle age is exacerbating his dissatisfaction with his life as a single homosexual man. So when he meets Curly, a captivating teen, he decides to have a go at heterosexuality. The unusual couple catches the disapproving eye of the conventional society around them. Persecuted left and right, they flee to the country. But despite all his efforts, Armand still wonders what is it that he really wants. Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival 2009.

Alain Guiraudie

Born in 1964, in France. He made his first short, Les héros sont immortels, in 1990. In 2001, his medium-length Du soleil pour les gueux was shown at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. In 2003, he made his first feature, No Rest for the Brave. He went on to direct Time Has Come (2005), best screenplay at Turin, and The King of Scape (2009), which brought him back to the Fortnight. Festival do Rio presents this year a retrospective of his work.
