In the La Guajira region of Colombia, the ancient traditions of the Wayuu Indians live on. When a girl has her first period, she must spend one year in a shed, in virtual isolation – any contact with men is deemed taboo. The grandmother is the one in charge of handling this coming-of-age ritual, preparing the girl for her role as a woman. Pili is 12 and has just embarked on her journey. But can she fathom the implications of this transformation? Throught twelve moons, the movie invites the viewer to grasp the profundity of what it means to be a Wayuu woman. Berlin 2013.
