Argentinian Irene, German Matthias, Syrian Nabil, Israeli Laila, and Angolan Karima, are visiting Rio de Janeiro for different motives. Each of them experiences the beauty and the chaos of the "wonderful city" in their own way. They get to know Francisco, a quintessential Carioca, who helps them to solve their problems in a unique way. In the process, they overcome prejudices, open up to new cultures, adopt different perspectives and help Rio to be more inclusive and less unequal. Carlos Saldanha, the artistic director, is a Brazilian filmmaker and one of the main creative forces behind the Ice Age (2002–) and Rio (2011–) franchises. He received Oscar nominations for the short Gone Nutty (2002) and the animated feature Ferdinand (2017). Joana Mariani, general director of the series, is a director, producer and screenwriter. Her first feature was Listen to Me (2018). She is the producer for award-winning films, such as Drained (2006).
